Langara College incorporates Musqueam name into core brand identity

The Vancouver school was first given the nameย snษ™wฬ“eyษ™ษฌ lelษ™mฬ“ย in 2016, as the school sits on unceded traditional Musqueam territory. The name means โ€˜house of teachingsโ€™ in the hษ™nฬ“qฬ“ษ™minฬ“ษ™mฬ“ language, and refers to advice given to a child as they grow.

โ€œWe are very proud to share our new dual-name identity. Given our campus location on what was once a Musqueam village, it was important for us to honour the gift of the name snษ™wฬ“eyษ™ษฌ lelษ™mฬ“ by fully incorporating it into our institutional identity,โ€ said Langara president and CEO Lane Trotter in a statement Monday. โ€œThis work is the next step in our continuing relationship with the Musqueam, and we hope it will help Indigenous students feel even more welcome on our campus.โ€
